The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park and covers an area of 2850 km 2. The Park has remarkable attractions with large groups of Elephants, spectacular natural beauty of savanna landscape and magnificent majestic Baobabs. Over 550 different bird species have been recorded in the park, of which several are threatened or endemic.
Tarangire National Park is especially interesting for game drives during the dry season – late June to October. At this time of the year, huge numbers of thirsty animals congregate along the banks of the Tarangire River. However, the park remains an excellent spot for visiting throughout the year, guaranteeing opportunities to witness elephants and a variety of other wildlife species.
