Zanzibar. Even the name sounds exotic, doesn’t it? It conjures up images of white sand beaches & crystal blue waters, colonial architecture, exotic spices & eclectic cuisine, and a unique, vibrant culture—with African, Arab, and European influences.
The Tanzanian island and trading post has a distinct and storied history and is definitely worthy of a visit while you’re in East Africa. We fit it in between safaris in different countries and it provided a welcomed break to a busy trip. So I wanted to share an itinerary for spending 4 days in Zanzibar.
WHAT TO SEE & ACTIVITIES
The first day allows you to unwind and enjoy the serene beaches, with time to explore the local area or simply relax by the shore. On the second day, you’ll visit Jozani Forest to witness the unique red colobus monkeys, followed by a spice tour where you’ll discover the rich history and uses of Zanzibar’s famous spices.
Day three provides a full day of leisure, where you can enjoy Paje Village’s beautiful beaches or try exciting activities like kitesurfing. With plenty of free time, it’s the perfect opportunity to relax or engage in water sports. On your final day, after breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Zanzibar International Airport for your onward journey, concluding your memorable Zanzibar adventure with a smooth and convenient departure.

Arrive Zanzibar Airport, transfer to north end with Spice Tour en route
Standard Lodging: Aaman Bungalows (pool view room)
Free day to enjoy the beach, walk around the village, go snorkeling or scuba diving
Standard Lodging: Aaman Bungalows
Transfer to Stone Town for 2 hour walking tour of historic area, rest of the day is free
Standard Lodging: Tembo House Hotel (sea/pool view with balcony)
Free day, transfer to Zanzibar Airport and depart
